Galvagni Lucia | Bioethical Issues at the Beginning of Life: A Gender Perspective

Abstract

The possibility to start, to interrupt or to continue a pregnancy, to do prenatal or preimplantation genetic testing and screening, to adopt an embryo or to assist a baby who has born in very critical conditions are some of the scenarios that are analysed in the beginning of life bioethics discussion.
All these positions are strongly gender- and contextual related: in a gender perspective relations, emotions and power are considered relevant moral dimensions, because they play a key role in any moral choice and decision.
In this paper I will underscore how the discussion and the moral argumentation on reproduction can be developed only adopting some gender notions and listening to the voice of the women involved.
